JOB SUMMARY:

Think Together is a California nonprofit that partners with schools to change the odds for kids. Founded in 1997, Think Together operates the greatest number of expanded learning programs across California, serving ~100K students, and is home to a suite of additional programs that aim to drive systemic change across California’s public-school systems.

In 2024, Think Together completed a 5-year impact strategic plan that identifies a set of conditions for equity driven school systems required to achieve the organization’s vision. Think Together is leveraging its expanded learning core business to build a flywheel powered by innovation and technology. Initiatives in Think’s Impact Portfolio will enable the organization to test, learn and demonstrate what it takes to build the conditions of equity-driven school systems at scale.

We’re looking for a UI/UX Product Designer with a strong product mindset and user interface design skills to join our first product squad building AI-powered tools for education.

This is a hands-on role ideal for a designer who thrives in cross-functional environments. You’ll collaborate deeply with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders across the product lifecycle—from user research and discovery to design system development and high-fidelity UI delivery. You won’t just make things look good—you’ll help define what we build and why, grounding all decisions in user insight and product outcomes.

  • Contribute to and evolve our design system, ensuring consistency and cohesion across products
  • Partner closely with product managers and engineers throughout discovery, definition, and delivery phases
  • Lead and participate in user research activities to understand pain points and identify opportunities
  • Create journey maps, user flows, low-fidelity wireframes, and high-fidelity UI designs and prototypes
  • Validate design solutions through user testing, stakeholder feedback, and iteration
  • Advocate for accessibility and inclusive design for a wide range of users (students, families, educators, administrators)
  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure design quality and feasibility through to launch
  • Effectively present and communicate design decisions across the team and organization
  • Bring a curious, growth-oriented mindset to a fast-moving, impact-driven environment

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in design, HCI, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of experience designing digital products in a collaborative, cross-functional setting
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates user-centered thinking, UI/UX design skill, and strategic impact
  • Fluency with Figma (preferred), Sketch, or similar tools, including component and prototyping workflows
  • Experience designing for responsive web and/or mobile apps with modern UX patterns
  • Strong understanding of product discovery, agile workflows, and iterative design
  • Experience planning and conducting usability tests or gathering user feedback
  • Comfortable working with engineers and balancing technical constraints with user and business needs
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate design thinking to diverse audiences
  • Commitment to equity, access, and designing products that make a difference for all learners

BACKGROUND CHECK REQUIREMENTS:
• Must pass Live Scan (Criminal Background Check via fingerprinting).
• Provide and maintain a clear TB test throughout employment.

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary $175,000
