Shipping & Logistics Lead

JOB SUMMARY:

The Shipping & Logistics Lead is responsible for all activities revolving around shipping and receiving for the Production Department. Handles all inbound and outbound logistical operations. Tracks inventory, keeping accurate records, packaging, and weighing items, printing shipping labels and postage, inspecting goods received for damage, and distributing products to other departments. Supports a variety of logistics functions, including sourcing, receiving, purchasing, and dispatching.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Receive all parts that are shipped to the company, ensuring products received are accurate according to packing slips and purchase orders and are undamaged.
  • Pack and ship orders to internal and external customers in the most efficient manner.
  • Prepare and print shipping labels corresponding to shipping needs.
  • Schedule large shipments and plan logistics to ensure that there is sufficient storage space for outgoing and incoming shipments.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Restock and update supplies.
  • Determines most cost-effective shipping method.
  • Handles customer pick-ups.
  • Maintains internal record-keeping systems.
  • Assembles containers, pallets, crates, packs goods to be shipped and prepares identifying information and shipping instructions.
  • Knows safe storage and handling procedures for various chemicals and materials.
  • Knows proper shipping procedures for transportation of dangerous goods.
  • Place merchandise in a warehouse or storage facility by packaging and lifting of items, operating pallet jacks and hand-trucks for large goods.
  • Handle billing and invoicing.
  • Effective communication, including writing, speaking and interpersonal communication.
  • Quick critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Keep organization and time management skills.
  • Good collaboration and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Obtain and process product orders, including receiving deliveries, registering them, and distributing packages and letters within the company.
  • Collaborate with multiple offices and schools within the company to coordinate deliveries.
  • Handle issues arising in shipping or inventory handling.
  • Review of purchase orders to ensure accuracy and fix shipment errors.
  • Work closely with Operations to manage inventory levels as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:  

  • High school diploma required; two-year minimum college degree preferred.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in shipping, receiving, or selling related products.
  • Operates pallet jacks, hand truck or other equipment to load, unload, transport, and store goods regularly.
  • Learn new procedures and the operation of new equipment quickly.
  • Ability to bend and lift up to 25 pounds or more.
  • Work independently with a minimum of supervision.
  • Adapt quickly to new or evolving products and multi-task projects as needed.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, quick turn-around time environment.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Shipping and logistics methods
  • Principles and procedures or record-keeping or warehouse materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Principles and practices of basic Microsoft programs and any other software programs that Think Together utilizes.
  • Requisitions, purchase orders, invoices, and basic mathematical skills.
  • Safe work practices.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:  

  • MS Word processing (minimum 45 wpm)
  • Excel (set up, design, maintain spreadsheets, create calculation formulas)
  • Use of Xerox equipment (copiers, scanners)
  • Use of finishing equipment
  • E-mail and Internet software
 

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary Range $24.00-$26.00

 This is the targeted compensation for the position. A range of factors, including but not limited to; location, skills, experience, will be considered. Actual compensation may vary.
